Service Exchange 3HO
A Solstice Experience Created by Community
Service Exchange 3HO is the foundation that allows 3HO International Solstices to exist as living, breathing community events. The community creates Solstice through collective participation, dedication, and shared responsibility rather than producing it for an audience.
The heart of this exchange is seva, the yogic practice of selfless service. Through daily acts of service, participants help shape every aspect of Solstice life. This interdependence creates intimacy, trust, and a depth of experience that extends far beyond scheduled classes or ceremonies.

What Service Exchange Means in Practice
The Service Exchange program invites participants to contribute consistent daily service in support of the event. Most Service Exchange members serve approximately six hours per day, depending on the needs of their team and the nature of their role.
In return, participants receive a reduced registration rate. This exchange reflects a core principle of Kundalini Yoga: when we give consciously, we receive in ways that are both practical and transformative.
Details about lodging and onsite logistics are available on the Travel and Stay page.
Why Service Exchange Is Essential
Service Exchange participation directly supports the accessibility of Solstice. Because of this collective contribution, 3HO International can offer registration rates that remain significantly lower than the true cost of producing the event.
This support allows for reduced pricing for international participants, students, families, elders, and scholarship recipients. Without Service Exchange, the financial barrier to attending Solstice would increase dramatically each year.
Service as a Yogic Discipline
Service Exchange 3HO is not simply volunteer work. It is a lived practice of karma yoga. Participants approach each task—whether physical, administrative, creative, or relational—as part of their spiritual discipline. They serve with presence, neutrality, and consistency.
In this way, everyday actions become opportunities for awareness. Over time, service becomes a teacher, revealing patterns, strengthening resilience, and deepening humility.
3HO International extends gratitude to all those who offer seva in support of Solstice. Their commitment brings the teachings of Kundalini Yoga and meditation to the global community.
Leadership Through Service
Service Area Managers are experienced participants who choose to deepen their commitment through leadership. These roles involve both practical coordination and energetic stewardship.
Managers support their teams through preparation, communication, and daily check-ins. They help recruit team members, clarify service needs, and ensure that each area functions smoothly. Because these roles require greater responsibility, managers often serve longer and more variable hours.
This path of leadership emphasizes service first. Authority arises from reliability, presence, and care for the whole.
A Wide Range of Service Opportunities
Service Exchange includes many different teams, each essential to the rhythm of Solstice life. Some teams focus on organization and logistics, while others support nourishment, sustainability, health, safety, creativity, and sacred ceremony.
There are roles that involve physical work and roles that require technical, musical, medical, or interpersonal skills. Regardless of the task, every service area contributes to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and well-functioning environment.
Community expectations and shared agreements can be reviewed on the 3HO community guidelines page.

A Shared Commitment, A Shared Experience
Service Exchange 3HO is an invitation to participate fully in the creation of Solstice. It transforms attendance into stewardship and service into spiritual practice. Through seva, individuals support the whole. Through community, the individual is supported. This mutual exchange is what gives Solstice its lasting power.

Sat Nam 3HO! I would love to do service exchange, but I will be out of town until the 21st. Returning to Santa Fe then. I am wondering if there are certain days, or how the schedule works. I have a sleeper van and was wondering if it’s possible to stay in it?
Gurumeher Kaur Khalsa
