Dr. Karambir Khalsa
Dr. Karambir Khalsa, Psy.D. is a Licensed Psychologist in Arizona.
Dr. Khalsa’s dissertation research studied the potential use of gong meditation as an intervention for individuals with anxiety.
The randomized, controlled study compared the effects of listening to an 11-minute, recorded gong meditation daily for 2 weeks against listening to a recording of water sounds in nature and a control condition of going about activities of daily living (i.e., true control condition).
Data indicated a statistically significant reduction in trait anxiety in the group that listened to the recorded gong meditation as compared to the group that listened to water sounds as measured using the State Trait Inventory of Somatic and Cognitive Anxiety.
While the study lacked a sufficient number of participants for the results to be definitive, it supported the idea that gong meditation as an intervention for individuals with anxiety was a worthwhile field of study.
