Solstice Hot Sauce

Inspired by Ayurveda, this hot sauce recipe can be paired with kitcheree and other cleansing dishes to promote healing and wellness. It is also a popular staple at 3HO’s Summer and Winter Solstice events! 

Ingredients

  • 3 large onions, chopped 
  • ¼ cup dried crushed red chiles 
  • 8 ounces tamarind concentrate 
  • 16 ounces hot water 
  • 1 ½ cups sesame oil 
  • 1 tablespoon turmeric 
  • 10 whole small dried red chiles 
  • 2 cups apple cider vinegar

Intructions

  1. Put the onions in a large bowl.
  2. Sprinkle with the crushed chilés.
  3. Melt tamarind concentrate in hot water.
  4. Add sesame oil and diluted tamarind to onions.
  5. Sprinkle with the turmeric.
  6. Add the whole chiles and vinegar.
  7. Stir and cover. Let sit overnight or several days for the fullest flavor.
  8. Store in the refrigerator. The sauce will keep for a long time and get better and better.

They promote heart health, good digestion and have antibacterial properties.
