Chanting the mantra, Sat Nam, awakens your soul and gives you your destiny.
Sat means Truth—the reality of one’s existence. Nam means name or identity. It instantly attunes us to our highest self. Sat Nam affirms that Truth is our Identity.
Sat Nam is a bij mantra, a seed sound. Within the seed is all the knowledge of the fully grown tree. Bij mantras are sounds that rearrange the habit patterns of the subconscious mind.
When we say Sat Nam to each other, we are acknowledging our mutual divine identity.
“Let us purify ourselves with truth, these are vibrations. The words I can tell you: Sat Nam. Sat represents truth; Nam represents personified. It means the spirit of that creative God, the cosmos, stands personified through these vibrations. It is not a big thing. But to chant it is not a muttering. It is an electro-physical process through which this energy is made to circulate. That is the key, there is no big thing about it.”
-Yogi Bhajan 6/14/79
“If you will exalt God all time with every breath—Sat Nam, Sat Nam, Sat Nam, Sat Nam—you shall become Sat Nam, the entire world will become Sat Nam around you, and there is nothing which will not know you. Why we are so beautiful people? Why do people see shining light in the eyes of you? Whatever is still wrong among us, still we chant the basic mantra, Sat Nam. We meet each other—Sat Nam. We telephone each other and the first sound we hear is Sat Nam. This is nothing but what Sat Nam has done to you all. If you want to give me the credit, you may give me the credit, but it doesn't mean a thing. It is the credit of that word.”
