Man to Man from a Woman’s Perspective

By Sat Purkh Kaur

Reading and studying the men’s teachings was perhaps the most transformative thing I’ve ever done. My job affords me a lot of exposure to the Teachings of Yogi Bhajan, and these teachings have all had a profound effect on my psyche, my projection, and my personal growth. But there’s something unique about studying the men’s teachings as women; it’s a window into a world you’ve never understood but have always been inexplicably drawn toward. Like most young women, I wanted love and marriage and family; but my relationships with men never seemed to pan out—and they always ended the same way. So something in the dynamic had to be about me; and something about men remained impenetrable to me. Here I was—this smart, talented, funny woman—and I just didn’t get it.

It was frustrating to me because I had grown up in a lovely home, with a steady, kind, and generous father. Why didn’t I understand men better? What was I not seeing? Studying the men’s teachings, I began to recognize my own hidden agendas and unseen father phobias. I began to see more deeply into the patterns I was raised with and to recognize my own blocks, which really helped move me into a more balanced place. But the greatest realization was that men weren’t women! A revelation, I know, but for me, it truly was. I had been expecting men to respond like me, act like me, and think like me—what a recipe for disaster!

Once I let go of the notion that men should be like me, I began to relax. I quit blaming them for my own experience and began to take responsibility for my interactions with the men in my life. I’ve still got a long way to go, but it gets better each day that I center myself in my own truth and don’t expect men to be anything other than what they are—men. A woman’s positivity in relationship to a man changes everything. When I recognize their strengths and ignore their deficits, I can detach from any expectation and simply enjoy what is. Life begins to flow.

Study the men’s teachings and open up that window into the alternate universe that is Man. You will be transformed and so will your relationships.
