Aval Alah: A Mantra of Peace and Good Will to All

This is a universal and humanitarian mantra. It was written by the Sufi Saint Kabir, and included in the holy book of the Sikhs, the Siri Guru Granth Sahib. It brings peace and the consciousness of equality and good will to all.

Aval alah noor upaaei-aa kudrat kay sabh banday

Ayk noor tay sabh jag upajiaa kaon bhalay ko manday

Logaa bharam na bhoolaho bhaa-ee

Khaalik khalak khalak khalak meh khaalik poor raeh-o sarab thaa-ee

Maatee ayk anayk bhaant kar saajee saajanahaarai

Naa kachh poch maatee kay bhaanday naa kachh poch kumbhaarai

Sabh meh sachaa ayko soee tis kaa kee-aa sabh kachh hoee

Hukam pachhaanai so ayko jaanai bandaa kahee-ai soee

Alaho alakh na jaa-ee lakhiaa gur gur deenaa meethaa

Keh Kabeer mayree sankaa naasee sarab niranjan deethaa

First Allah created the Light; then by His Creative Power He made all mortal beings.

From the One Light, the entire universe welled up.

So who is good, and who is bad?

Oh people, Oh Siblings of Destiny, do not wander deluded by doubt.

The Creator and the creation are one, totally pervading and permeating all places. Pause

The clay is the same, but the Fashioner has fashioned it in various ways.

There is nothing wrong with the pot of clay; there is nothing wrong with the Potter.

The One True Lord abides in all, and by His making, everything is made.

Whoever realizes His command, knows the One Lord, and that person becomes His slave.

The lord Allah is unseen; He cannot be seen. The Guru has blessed me with this sweetness.

Says Kabir, my anxiety and fear are gone; the Immaculate lord pervades everywhere.
