This piece was written in 2009 for Aquarian Times by Sada Sat Singh, who passed away in 2017. He was a light-bearer and inspired many Kundalini Yoga students with his wisdom, humor, and compassionate nature. His words are as relevant today as they were ten years ago.
We’ve come a long way since 1969 when Yogi Bhajan began teaching Kundalini Yoga, first declared that “Happiness is your birthright,” and founded the 3HO® Foundation. Certainly a lot has changed in our world, and we as an organization and family have also evolved and grown. To me, the true beauty of us collectively is in the timelessness of Yogi Bhajan’s teachings and the timelessness we experience as we live them. In this, 3HO will always be pertinent, relevant, and vital.
Our first 40 years have been wonderfully expansive and truly transcendent and that is the brilliance of 3HO. Yogi Bhajan created an organization that is not bound by the traditional organizational structure. He taught us the progression to move from individual through group to universal consciousness and gave us 3HO as a vehicle to help facilitate that process.
Whenever he was asked who was a member of 3HO and how would we define that membership, Yogi Bhajan always responded that membership is defined by participation. This allows for total inclusion. Rather than being an exclusive group, we become completely inclusive. However one participates in Yogi Bhajan’s teachings—whether practicing Kundalini Yoga or just enjoying a cup of Yogi Tea—all of us are included.
So as we complete these first 40 years of our Aquarian journey together, living Healthy, Happy, and Holy, it is certainly inspiring to wonder what the next 40 years hold for us and our planet. As Chairman of the Board of Directors of 3HO Foundation, I look forward to our working and being together as we deepen our collective experience and get better and better at what we do on individual, group, and universal levels. And as we do, we will continue to have 3HO to help and connect us in this process.
3HO is both our physical and virtual community. It is the connector and matrix that brings us together, that makes us one, and helps transport us and future generations to universal consciousness.
As our collective practice matures and we have an even deeper effect on our planet, it will continue to be our great honor to be part of the evolution that we as humanity will experience. At the same time, it is wise to remember the old saying that the “darkest hour is just before the dawn.” We will not be without our challenges. As we meet these challenges they will define our caliber, our greatness, and the deep impact that we continue to have on humankind. We will all be a part of the development of the Sensory Human that Yogi Bhajan described, and we shall experience that elevation together.
In 40 years, it will be 2049. The Aquarian Age will be 36 years old and entering its third 18-year Cycle of Life Energy. Many of us will no longer be on the planet but there will be many who will follow—many more than we who are here now. Yogi Bhajan said, “Forty to 60 percent of the population will be practicing yoga. Yoga, with its every system, is going to prevail. Yoga is a science for all humanity. It holds a great future for every human being. The future of yoga is bright, bountiful, and blissful.” 3HO will continue to serve and be an integral part of this growing community. That is our future and that is our collective legacy.
