Yogi Bhajan Lecture: Call on Your Tolerance

Excerpts from a lecture on 6/30/77

Every day of your life your tolerance should be ready to cope with your circumstances.

If you don't program your tolerance, your marriage will be a non-marriage, your teaching will be non-teaching, your students shall be non-students. As a teacher you will fail, as a student you will fail. You will fail, fail, fail, fail! That's how it will be.

You cannot keep a gauge of tolerance for each day. No, you must produce enough tolerance to face any day. Just as the pancreas produces insulin to neutralize incoming sugar and balance the blood; exactly so, you can produce tolerance, organize it and reduce a problem.

Have you ever tried? Whenever you need tolerance, call on it. Do this experiment: Close your eyes and call on your tolerance. You will feel it come to you. Tolerance is a substance; it is an object. The hypothalamus can produce it, meditation can give it to you, but you have to call on it.

"I need tolerance, tolerance come on. Tolerance—report!" If you say "Tolerance, tolerance, tolerance," tolerance will be with you. If you call on a smile, a smile will be with you. Call on life and it will come to you quite naturally.
