How We Serve

Karma Yoga, the yoga of self-less service

Be intent on action; not on the fruits of action. – Bhagavad-Gita

A smile is a type of selfless service

One of the six major branches of yoga is Karma Yoga. Karma Yoga, also known as selfless service, is not considered ‘work’ as much as a joyful expression of gratitude, compassionate action, and even as a path towards union with the Divine.

The women who come together for International Women’s Camp as participants, work exchange staff, or scholarship recipients, all take part in some form of selfless service: welcoming you at the registration tent; cooking the food and managing the grounds; arranging the marketplace and painting the signs, and returning the land to its original condition following the event.

Area Managers and Service Exchange Participants receive a discount in trade for a larger time commitment than regualr program participants.

Ways to Serve:

Karma Yoga: All participants will sign up during registration for a Karma Yoga group and will contribute approximately two hours of service daily through the duration of the event.

Area Managers: Supervise a group of Service Exchange and karma yogis to help make camp run smoothly. Area Managers rate is $108.

Service Exchange: Work about 4 hours a day in your service area. Service Exchange participant rate is $154.

Volunteer for Sadhana or Gurdwara: Read Japji, lead the Sadhana chants, or play music for the Gurdwara service.
