EVERY HEARTBEAT

Every heartbeat is God’s Name to me.

And every breath of life is ecstasy.

Every night is a bliss to me

And I awake in your company.

The dawn plays a symphony — revealing reality.

I hear and see and speak of You

Each breath reveals this Universal Truth

Bharia hath pair tan day                            When the hands and the body are covered with dirt

Pani dhotai utras kheh                                Water can rinse them clean

Mut paliti kapar hoe                                    When the clothes are dirty and smeared with soil,

Day saa boon laiai oh dhoe                      Soap can remove the stain.

Bhariai mat papa kai sang             When the mind is polluted by errror and shame,

Oh dhopai navai kai rang              It can only be cleansed by the love of the Name.

Punni papi akhan nah                                 If a man is drawn by the virtuous or the vicious,

Kar kar karna likh lai jaho               Let him know that he draws to himself what is the same

Ape bij ape hi kaho                                    As you sow, so shall you reap, O Nanak

Jin siri-aa tinai savaari-aa                                       The Lord who created You,

Pooree ho-ee karaamaat                                     Perfect is your Miracle

Aap sirajanahaarai dhaari-aa                              The Creater Himself has installed You

Sikhee atai sangatee                                              Your Sikhs, and the entire Sangat bow,

Paarbrahm kar namasakaari-aa                          and revere You as the Supreme Lord.

Atal athaaho atol too                                             You are Unshakable, Unfathomable,

Tayraa ant na paaravaariaa                                 and Immeasurable Your extent is

Jinee too(n) sayvi-aa bhaa-o kar                         They who serve You with love

Say tudh paar ootaari-aa                                      Are carried across the world-ocean by You.

Labh lobh kaam krodh moho                               Greed, attachment, lust, anger and ego

Maar kadhay tudh saparvaari-aa                        These five passions have been beaten

                                                                                    and driven out by You.

 

Dhan so tayraa thaan hai                                      Honored is Your Place,

Sach tayraa paiskaari-aa                                      True are Your Bounties.

Nanak too Lehnaa too hai                                    You are Nanak, You are Angad,

and You are Guru Amar Das

Gur Amar too veechaari-aa                                 So do I recognize You.

Gur dithaa taa(n) man saadhaari-aa                  Seeing the Guru, my soul is sustained.
