Service Exchange Areas

3HO Foundation International’s Solstice Sadhana Celebrations wouldn’t happen without Service Exchange participants. The success of the event depends on your dedication and commitment to doing seva (selfless service), one of the most powerful limbs of yoga. If you choose this powerful opportunity for spiritual growth, you will become an indispensable part of the backbone of this extraordinary event.

3HO’s Commitment to the Service Exchange Team
3HO supports you in a rewarding service experience and facilitates your participation in the Solstice program with:

  • 2-3 workshops per day
  • 2–3 days of White Tantric Yoga®
  • $208 reduced registration rate

Your Commitment to the Service Exchange Team, 3HO, and the Global Community
As a Solstice Service Exchange Team member your principal commitment is to make your service area successful. As a member of the team, you will serve approximately 6 hours a day in your service area. Arrival, departure, and service dates vary depending on the service area. You must be available for the entire duration of the service dates. Details for specific areas are listed below. If you arrive late or depart early you will be charged an additional $54/day.

Service Exchange Team Members are expected on-site by 6:00 pm the day before their service starts in order to acclimate, and have ample time to set up their personal tents before it gets dark.

No refunds will be given to Service Exchange participants after the end of early registration; no credits for future events after the 10th of June for Summer and the 10th of December for Winter Solstice.

Please apply to no more than 2 service exchange areas!

Parents Traveling with Children
The Solstice Youth Camp Co-op is the only area that parents can apply for unless there are two parents.  The second parent can apply for any position as long as one parent is serving in the Co-op.

You may not serve on other teams unless another parent/guardian (18+) will be providing care for your child. If you choose to apply for another area, let your area manager know you’re traveling with children and will have to serve one day with the Solstice Youth Camp.

First Aid

NOTE: At this time, First Aid Team is especially in need of licensed medical personnel. Medical Doctor (MD), Naturopathic Doctor (ND) and Registered Nurse (RN), licensed in any State. We also accept Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) licensed in New Mexico.

When you have 1500+ people in a high desert environment for over a week, some of the people get booboos—whether dehydration, sunburn, cactus, fevers, or other physical challenges. Our First Aid team serves these challenges with a graceful, caring, compassionate approach to healing. If you would like to serve in this way, we would love to have you on the team.

We have opportunities for nearly everyone, including doctors, nurses, EMTs, acupuncturists, chiropractors, massage therapists, psychotherapists, and even those who have not been professionally trained. Our First Aid area is staffed with clinical and support staff.

Clinical staff are medical doctors, nurses, and nurse practitioners currently licensed in another U.S. state who may legally perform medical or nursing functions at Solstice First Aid under the license of our physician medical director. Other health care professionals require independent New Mexico licensure in order to work clinically. Chiropractors, acupuncturists, massage therapists, and psychotherapists are always greatly appreciated.

Support staff provides invaluable service, creating and holding the healing energy of our First Aid area. There are no other special requirements than the desire to serve from your heart and respond to the needs that arise. Come help us take care of the camp in this devotional caring practice.

Registration: Family with Children

Solstice is a family experience, and just as ‘grown-ups’ have registration, we have created a special registration for children. Here we sign up kids for camp, provide information about the schedule of activities, and make sure parents know where to go and how to find out more information.

All of our children’s programs are run as cooperative efforts between parents and our lead guides. The Children’s Registration Team supports this by connecting parents with Karma Yoga opportunities for the Children’s Program. The team is friendly, inviting and supportive of parents, and playful with children. It is a wonderful opportunity to serve the families that make up our Community.

Manager: Prem Siri Kaur
Requirements:

  • Prepare to work an average of six hours per day. Our schedule is heavier early in Solstice, so those days are longer, but the remaining days get shorter.
  • Arrive on Tuesday June 12th.
  • Be ready to start working in the morning on Wednesday June 13th.
  • Serve until noon on Saturday June 23.

Please note that if you are a parent traveling with a child under three years of age you may not apply for a service exchange position in any area except the Solstice Youth Co-op Program.

Registration On-Site

Setting a friendly, inviting and calm atmosphere for participants as they arrive at the Solstice site is the most important function of the Registration Team. To create this requires a team that is able to stay composed and organized when registration becomes very busy. Our work is detail-oriented and requires patience and grace. You will serve Solstice participants by completing the check-in process on-line, handing out badges, and supporting in other ways that provide a great start to their Solstice experience. This is a good place to practice a humble, service-oriented attitude.

All team members must be comfortable with and adept at using computers. We will be completing the check-in process on-line this year as well as having on-site registration on-line. No more searching through paper files to find the registration form!

Set Up/Break Down Crew

The Solstice Setup Crew is responsible for setting the intention for a blessed, healing, inspiring experience at Solstice. The team needs strong souls who are comfortable with physical work. General tasks include unpacking storage items, weed whacking, caring for the land, treating compost, painting signs, a degree of skilled carpentry and landscaping work, helping in the kitchen, cleaning and creating the sacred space. It is a good mix of physical, creative, hard, fun, work.

“Happiness comes out of contentment, and contentment always comes out of service.” Yogi Bhajan

The best thing is the blessing of spending so much time at Guru Ram Das Puri in the company of your fellow setup yogis. The land is so beautiful and peaceful, and the experience is very deep.

Manager: Dharamjot Singh
Requirements:

  • Arrive on Monday June 4 by 2pm.
  • Service begins Tuesday June 5.
  • Set up continues until Thursday June 14.
  • On June 15, we are free to participate in the entirety of Solstice through June 23.
  • Breakdown happens Saturday and Sunday June 23 and 24th.
  • Service is completed by 2pm on Sunday June 24.

**Important Note** 50% of the work on Set up/Break Down crew happens at the end of Solstice when we must clean up after camp and put away everything we set up. This half of the work we do is easily as difficult, if not more difficult than setting up. But is it equally as important as it sets the stage for a better set up for next year’s program.

Break down can be energetically taxing and happens very quickly after camp closes. It is important that everyone is a team player and that we know you are committed to serving until breakdown is finished. If you have been on the set up/breakdown crew before and had a hard time with breakdown, or left early because you were too tired to work or cannot commit to the breakdown process for any other reason, we strongly suggest that you apply to another Service Exchange area.

The commitment to Set up/Break Down crew is difficult and intense but also deeply rewarding. You will create new and close friendships, learn something new about yourself, and your Solstice experience will be unique and fantastic.

Please note that if you are a parent traveling with a child under three years of age you may not apply for a service exchange position in any area except the Solstice Youth Co-op Program.
