Sat Nam Service Exchange Participants!

Thank you for your interest in our Service Exchange Program, without you our event could not happen! Below is a list of different areas that need your help. Being accepted on a Service Exchange Team means that you will pay a reduced registration rate of $285 (or $265 if you register before May 16).

Applying for a team and being accepted to that team are two different things. The manager of the team you apply to must accept you and send you a special acceptance letter containing the code for you to register as a Service Exchange Participant. You may apply to different teams, but you may only register for one team. Please have patience with your manager and email them if you have not gotten an answer within two weeks after applying. To apply simply follow the link by scrolling over the name of the team you want to apply for, then fill out the application form.

If you arrive late or depart early you will be charged an additional $54/day. Service Exchange Team Members are expected on-site by 6:00 pm the day before their service starts in order to acclimate, and have ample time to set up their personal tents before it gets dark. No refunds will be given to Service Exchange participants after the end of early registration; no credits for future events after the 10th of June.

The Event Season Crew is responsible for setting the intention and maintaining the grace for a blessed, healing, inspiring experience for participants at Summer Solstice Sadhana Celebration, International Women's Camp, and Khalsa Youth Camp. The team needs strong souls who are comfortable with long days filled with physical work. General tasks include unpacking stored items, setting up areas of camp, caring for the land, treating compost, painting signs, placing signs, a degree of skilled carpentry and landscaping work, cleaning, cooking crew meals and creating the sacred space. Crew members will need to commit to work from May 25 through July 18. The Event Season Crew will work long, physical hours outside in summer heat. We will cook our own meals prior to the Solstice Event. Crew members will be camping for two months at Ram Das Puri. Eight hour work days (including breaks) are the norm.

All in all, it's a good mix of physical, creative, hard, fun work. "Happiness comes out of contentment, and contentment always comes out of service." Yogi Bhajan.

The best thing is the blessing of spending so much time at Guru Ram Das Puri in the company of your fellow yogis. The land is so beautiful and peaceful, and the experience is very deep.  It is important that everyone is a team player and that we know you are committed to serving until the event season is finished. The commitment to the Event Season Crew is difficult and intense but also deeply rewarding. You will create new and close friendships, learn something new about yourself, and your summer experience will be unique and fantastic.

Days off will be scheduled into the summer, expect to have 1 day off every 8 day period. Limited transportation and local programming will be available on days off. For example: Taos Day off includes, visiting the Taos Gorge, hiking Wheeler Peak, Hanuman Temple tour, evening at hot springs.

Participants in this crew will receive a free service exchange pass to Summer Solstice Sadhana Celebration, a coupon for another service exchange pass to a future Solstice Sadhana Celebration, a coupon for a transferable Full Adult Registration for a future Sadhana Celebration Event, all meals included, and a small stipend paid at the completion of the season.

Solstice is a family experience, and just as 'grown-ups' have registration, we have created a special registration for children. Here we sign up kids for camp, provide information about the schedule of activities, and make sure parents know where to go and how to find out more information. All of our children's programs are run as cooperative efforts between parents and our lead guides. The Children's Registration Team supports this by connecting parents with Karma Yoga opportunities for the Children's Program. The team is friendly, inviting and supportive of parents, and playful with children. It is a wonderful opportunity to serve the families that make up our Community.

Green Team

Open

Not long ago the Set Up Crew and Green Team where considered part of the Grounds Team. After the past two summer events witnessing low service exchange attendance and hearing from different managers that they did not have enough people to get the job done it was decided to shift back to a single Grounds Team so that everyone who showed up to serve knew that they were serving a common goal. The Grounds Team is responsible for waste management and facilities maintenence. These two jobs are the main focus and we accomplish this goal together. Everyone who shows up to serve on the Grounds Team is commiting to getting these jobs done. If you have worked on the Green Team in the past please apply for the Grounds Team! You will be serving the same mission and we need your help! The work of recycling, composting and taking out the trash is massive and most important! Our event depends on this work to function in a most basic fashion. Please come serve with us and make this event possible for all!

The Grounds Crew takes care of the basic needs of the camp: removal of all the recycling, trash and compost we make around camp, cleaning cabins and showers, stocking and cleaning restrooms, replacing light bulbs, and a number of other tasks that fit in the realm of handyman work. We keep the basics of camp up and running so that our community can have a "grounded" experience. Grounds Crew requires a humble and serviceful attitude. The Grounds Crew service exchange is a very fast way to work through your own garbage and you get to work with a very beautiful team of saints! This is a fun area for those who are passionate about sustainability and educating camp participants about the importance of waste reduction and resource management. If you like to do physical work and don't mind getting a little dirty, this is the crew for you!

Every year at our Summer Solstice participants sign up for Karma Yoga as a way to give back for the beautiful experience they receive at Summer Solstice. Karma Yoga is an integral part of Solstice, as each of us creates a shared Solstice experience by contributing through service. As part of the Karma Yoga Support Team you will help support the needs of the karma yogis and service exchange participants by keeping in touch with area managers to schedule where people might best serve on any given day, helping to track and encourage attendance at Karma Yoga meetings and educating participants about the joy of seva. This team needs people who are inspired by and understand how to share the energy of giving. You will also be at the Karma Yoga table in the Onsite Check In/Registration Area signing up those who did not register on-line for their karma yoga team. This requires people who are able to remain calm during hectic times and be a patient and engaging personality to educate people about what they will be doing in their Karma Yoga area. You also will be helping people who register onsite choose a Karma yoga option that suits them. For these reasons, we only accept people who have previously attended a Solstice event. As Yogi Bhajan said, "We are on this planet to love each other, to serve each other, and to uplift each other. We have come on this Earth to give, not to take. Don’t take pride in taking. Give and you will be given virtues. And that will give you God."

Solstice is a family friendly environment and little people are everywhere. To give the children an experience of their own identity and to support the parents, we have a variety of programs for children, youth and teens. If you have experience working with these groups and are prepared to serve during one or two White Tantric Yoga days, this unique service opportunity is a wonderful option. It is the primary intention of Youth Camp to create an environment, a program, and a team that values childrens Solstice Sadhana experience. We’re looking for individuals who are physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually fit - who are able to take care of, not only themselves, but the children who are at Ram Das Puri. To do this requires a strong nervous system, a lot of flexibility and some sacrifice. The ability to communicate with parents, fellow team members and children is also essential. We prefer applicants who have attended at least one Solstice Sadhana Celebration, but if you have a lot of experience working with children, please apply. The Solstice Youth Camp Food team has the fun job of preparing food for all the children and teens in camp. This is a very important service since little people need extra care in the high desert climate of Guru Ram Das Puri. We prepare and serve two meals and a snack each day. Exchanges in this area will only be able to participate in two days of White Tantric Yoga.

The Tent Set Up crew provides an important welcoming presence to solstice participants. They will help any attendee set up their personal tent. They are also responsible for making sure 3HO rental tents are accurately and clearly labeled with their tent numbers. Each day people from the Tent Set Up Crew will check the 3HO tents for signs of damage or to fix any loose stakes etc. After any inclement weather Tent Set Up Crew should be available to help re-set up or fix 3HO rental tents and any personal tents.
