Prayers for Oak Creek, Wisconsin Community
We will have more information about ways to take action in the coming days.
Sikh Dharma Worldwide has sent this message:
Dear Members of the Sikh Dharma Sangat,
It is with shock and sadness that we have learned of the the tragic events which unfolded today, Sunday August 5, 2012 at the Sikh Gurdwara in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. Sikh Gurdwaras (places of worship) are sanctuaries of peace and meditation and are open to everyone without reservation or discrimination. For a Gurdwara to be the site of such senseless violence, injury and death is both tragic and troubling.
Our hearts and prayers are with the victims and their families at this difficult time. The entire Sikh Dharma Worldwide Community stands ready to assist those in the Oak Creek community in any way that we can.
We thank and appreciate the first responders, especially the police officers who through their courage and determination and at great personal risk, saved lives and prevented further tragedy.
In the aftermath of the violence visited on the Sikh Community following 9/11, Sikhs have worked tirelessly to educate others about the Sikh faith and have continued to participate and contribute to the communities in this great country where we live and work.
We shall continue to pray for peace and to work shoulder to shoulder with citizens in every community to bring peace and security to our homes, our cities, our states and our nation.
