The month of July was an intense time of cleansing and upheaval--few people would have expected such a degree of global distress as events around the world unfolded. We are now entering a higher dimension of inter-connectivity within the human psyche, and it is no longer a world of, “That’s your problem;” it is now everyone’s situation to solve.
Amidst the rescue mission we may be facing, there is the absolute necessity of rest and re-grouping. The changes we are looking for will not come about through a scattered or chaotic approach. The old carpenter’s motto, “Measure twice, cut once,” is the new theme of the day. Do not let yourself lose energy in “re-run dramas.”
The number 8 of August represents the themes of power, money, healing, and energy. Our own energy has been much demanded upon this year, and we need to consider if all our investments have been wise. The two week period of the 7th through the 22nd is a time of re-negotiation regarding all things connected to our precious energy resources. This includes the value of our time, as well. You must find the strength to say, “That’s it, I’m not going along with things as they are, there needs to be a change.” Then, with or without that person or environment, you make the necessary changes.
It is now about owning your own power and not being held an emotional hostage on any level.
The Gift of this year is a 5 (1+4=5), and number 5 represents the themes of freedom and genuine expression. If you are not allowed to express yourself in the present environment/relationship, you’re probably in the wrong place.
How to get to the right place? First, see if things can be re-negotiated within the present scenario. You don’t have to throw the baby out with the bath water, as the expression goes.
The Har Har Har Har Gobinday, Har Har Har Har Mukunday, etc. mantra will help greatly at this time, as it directly relates to self-empowerment and clearing karmic blocks. This is a mantra of liberation, and that’s what you want right now.
In every cycle of time there is a spiritual challenge, and a spiritual gift. The challenge is to move past our fears in declaring what our needs are. Then, once fully aware of our needs, to feel deserving of receiving the blessing. If you do not feel deserving (deep down inside), it is unlikely that things will change to your higher expectation.
Yogi Bhajan once said, “First deserve, then desire.” Sometimes we think of deserving as having done enough good things to get what we want. This in part can be true, however, a more Aquarian approach might be, “I am a child of the Creator of the Universe, and I deserve to be well taken care of.” It is from this space of abundance that we are empowered to serve and help others. I know that Mother Teresa (bless her heart), gave away all the washing machines at her convent as a sign of humility, but I’m keeping my washing machine.
Running parallel to the themes of power and energy are issues of protection, fair play, and purification. This is because the number 6 appears in the Base calculation for August (Base = Month 8 + Year 7 = 6). The timing is perfect to cleanse ourselves of physical and emotional toxins, as number 6 represents the immune system and our ability to protect ourselves from disease. This synchronizes with the overall theme of healing for August, which is embodied by the number 8. Start mixing up the lemon water and electrolytes, as you will need to exercise and sweat out the impurities from your system. Number 8 represents the Pranic Body in the yogic sciences, and through physical exercise and yogic pranayam (breathing) you can release a lot now.
It is presently important to shift the awareness from where you feel others are holding you back, to a more empowered space of how you can move yourself forward. The Pranic Body is the storehouse of our health and vitality, and once activated will create a momentum of positive, creative change. Without a strong Pranic Body it can be difficult to maintain the momentum.
If you feel that you need a little inspiration to keep you going this month, I suggest you watch the movie “Gravity” starring Sandra Bullock. Now that’s someone who really has problems. However, in spite of everything she keeps up and keeps going. Through sheer perseverance she keeps doing the next best thing, and ultimately is successful.
Our own life can be like this sometimes, when there does not seem to be an immediate remedy, but through the sequencing of positive intention and action we break through to the other side.
Here’s a recipe from Yogi Bhajan that you might find helpful and healing this month: “You are very depressed? Miserable? Take one tablespoon of fresh ground black pepper and a cup of yogurt and four peeled kiwis and blend it. Just eat it. It takes seven minutes to get out of deep depression.” (2-7-90)
