Aug 24 - Sept 7, 2006
Your goal is to reach one of the most sacred places in all of India . Pilgrims from all over the world climb this mountain to reach the holy Hemkunt Sahib temple , where Rishi Dusht Daman meditated for so many years before his incarnation as Guru Gobind Singh, the 10 th Sikh Guru.
Pristine and clear, the sacred peaks rise up ahead. You drive across narrow mountain roads, hike through rustic Himalayan villages, and climb over defrosting glaciers. When you finally reach the top, you are transfixed as you catch your first glimpse of the magnificent gurdwara (Sikh temple) overlooking the calm, clear lake. Even the very air is charged with centuries of spiritual longing and achievement. Meditation, chanting, and an aura of peace and serenity pervade the atmosphere, so that even though your body is tired your mind is in bliss.
One of the most magical experiences on your journey is the spirit of amiability and the sense of protection you feel sharing the climb with spiritual seekers from all over the world - a comradeship where the barriers of language, culture and religion became nothing in the face of the beauty of the human spirit. As you stop for tea or soup in one of the many stalls that appear on the trail, many people will share their experiences, describing the beauty of arriving, their first glimpse of the holy lake, or the people they have met.
This is a chance for you to test your limits and access your spirit in an ancient and sacred place of pilgrimage. If you have a sense of adventure, a longing and a passion for spiritual growth, and love to meditate, call for more information.

INDIA
Welcome to the adventure that is India . Never a dull moment - never a boring view. It will test your definitions of reason, of time, of function and of order. It will show you sights that you could not imagine on your own. It will reveal its heart, unashamed of its exposure. It will delight you in its quirkiness. It will show you the most base of human existences, it will exalt you to the greatest humility, it will awe you in its spirit and it will touch deep into your soul's essence. India is like no other country. It defies definition.
Come join us for this year's India Yatra to get a taste of India . Open your senses, and open your mind to an encounter that must be experienced to be believed. It is an ancient place, steeped with faith and spirituality. Here in the West, spirituality is explored - In India it is lived.
"Ultimately, India is going to be exactly what you make of it. This is certainly not a place you simply and clinically "see"; it's an assault on all the senses, a journey that's impossible to define because it's so different for everyone. But there's one thing for sure - no matter where you go or what you do, it's a place you will never forget."

WHAT IS A YATRA?
A Yatra is a spiritual Pilgrimage. A journey that serves your soul.
Traveling in a group is the most powerful way of supporting yourself through these new experiences. The concept of a Yatra or spiritual pilgrimage goes back to Vedic times, when seers and sages established pilgrimage centers in all corners of India to give everyone a deep sense of belonging and identity with the spiritual culture. I believe that there were 64 places of pilgrimage that claimed to elevate the spirit and facilitate "crossing over". It was a life's goal to do a yatra at least once in life. Yatra implies a moral, physical and mental discipline and is considered a great yoga. It was often done on foot and was a very humble journey, often long and always challenging. The yatris (pilgrims), by circulating through these locations understood themselves to be part of the larger human family. This constant circulation was a unique vehicle through which the message of love, tolerance and mutual respect was shared with the larger community. It was a very unique spiritual upkeep system. Our intention with this trip is a similar spiritual goal. There will be challenges, there will even be some hardships but our attitude will carry us through to a deeper level of ourselves.

YOGI BHAJAN ON YATRAS
Yatra is a spiritual pilgrimage to clear your mind, cleanse your karma and relate to your soul. It is relating to your higher consciousness, your own divine altar. It is a simple act to test yourself, conquer your mind and experience your own purity.
