Work Exchanges
The Jaap Sahib course takes form and manifests through the dedicated work and combined efforts of many individuals. It is a blessing to be part of the team that serves and supports the delivery of this course and those who participate in it.
If you would like to arrange a work exchange so that you can attend the course, we will be happy to assist you. We would like to arrange most of these work exchange positions as half exchanges – half your course is an exchange and half you pay for. This way, you are still able to attend enough of the course so that you feel satisfied. However, if you definitely want a full exchange, please state that in your email. It’s possible we can arrange for some of the time to be fulfilled either a day or two before the course or after.
A person with a Full Exchange works approximately 35 – 40 hours. A person with a half exchange works approximately 15 – 20 hours. The areas are listed below.
- Grounds – most of this will be fairly light work, need at least one man though
- Kitchen – help with prep of meals
- Registration – help with registering participants at beginning and other designated times
If you are interested in a work exchange for the course, please contact Ravi Har Kaur at ravihark@sikhdharma.org, and indicate what your top two work area choices would be, your phone number and please also indicate whether you have any physical limitations. There are limited spaces available for these exchanges. We will do our best to match people with jobs, but if your top picks have been filled, we will need to place you elsewhere.
Seva
Everyone will be asked to participate in a small amount of seva (selfless service) to help the camp run smoothly. There will be a sign up sheet at registration for these areas - you do not need to request them ahead of time.
The areas for seva are listed below:
- Meal serving
- Light clean up of our stage and class area
- Shoe area
- Gurdwara sevas
