Yogic Food for Women
Almond oil is essential for women. 1 Tbsp of raw, cold-pressed almond oil should be added to your daily routine. It is said to lower cholesterol and cleans the body of toxins. It will keep your skin healthy and shining. Sesame oil, if used the same way, is excellent for a woman’s system.
Bananas and raisins have potassium which help to balance a woman’s mood. A woman should have a banana a day. Try taking 10 raisins every morning and every afternoon (4:00 PM).
Garlic, onions and ginger are three roots which are a very important part of a yogic diet. Called "the trinity roots" in the Kundalini Yoga tradition, they help enhance the yogic practice. Onions are considered a blood cleanser, ginger is excellent for the nervous system, and for digestion garlic is a powerful antibiotic and natural cleanser.
Five peeled almonds a day are another essential item. They keep the impurities from building up in the body. Soak them at night, and the skins will be soft enough to peel in the morning. Almonds should always be eaten peeled except when a woman is menstruating since the skins are a natural astringent.
Rice bran syrup and lecithin are great nutritional supplements. Chili and cayenne aid against depression.
Relaxation is necessary for a good digestion as well as mild activity such as walking to massage the organs of digestion and elimination to keep the system moving. It is also good to take a 10 minute nap after a big meal to allow the body’s energy to focus on digestion.
Digestion begins in the mouth, and Yogi Bhajan has always said that you would not have any digestive trouble if you were to chew each mouthful of food 60 times before swallowing. Emphasis is placed on how the food is ingested as well. Sitting and focusing your energy while you eat instead of grabbing your food on the run will aid your digestive process.

Yogi’s believe in eating “Satvic” foods which are nonstimulating foods: simple, pure, and whole. Avoid processed foods and chemical additives, preservatives or dyes. Foods that clear the system within 18 hours are ideal for women. Meat stays in the digestive tract too long and can begin to rot. This can create an environment for colon cancer. Its not what you eat, but how you digest and eliminate food.
